The question I get asked more than any other is a simple one. Where do I even start?
It usually comes from someone who has been picturing the same thing for a while. A place near the hill for winter weekends, or somewhere on the water for the summer, or a spot that could eventually become the retirement home. The dream is clear. The path to it is not, and that is exactly where most people get stuck.
I understand why. Buying resort real estate is not like buying a regular home. You are choosing a lifestyle first and a property second, and almost everything about the process works a little differently once you get into it. The way you own the property, how the rental programs work, the rules each community sets, the timelines on a pre-construction purchase. None of it is complicated once someone walks you through it, but very few people have anyone to walk them through it.
That is the part of this work I care about most. I spend my time in these communities every week, from Blue Mountain to Muskoka Bay to Horseshoe Valley and Deerhurst, and I have learned that the buyers who end up happiest are the ones who started with the right questions in the right order. Not the flashiest unit or the best-timed deal. The right foundation.
So I put together a full guide that lays out the whole process, step by step, in the order you will actually face it. It covers how to think about the way you will use the property, how to choose the right community, how resort ownership actually works, and everything through to closing day. It is the guide I wish every buyer had before their first conversation with me.
If a resort purchase is somewhere on your horizon, start there. It will make the whole thing feel a lot less daunting.
